Award Winning Peel X!

We’re delighted to share we’ve recently won three awards and been nominated for a number of major awards for our work in digital storytelling.

Peel X professionals display Uist Unearthed Project with Award judges as they blend technical expertise and breathtaking creativity.

This marks a really exciting time for Peel X in the world of immersive tech as we bring together the worlds of augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality and digital storytelling. We’re delighted for the recognition which marks a huge step forward for us.

It’s great recognition for the hard work of our team and we really can’t thank them enough. Made up of talented animators, 3D-modellers, developers and writers, our team help our clients to break exciting new ground (with risk-free and total confidence) to take their first steps into the world of immersive technologies.

So what do we have to celebrate? Well, last month, we were delighted to attend the prestigious Council for British Archaeological Achievement Awards at Dublin Castle where our Uist Unearthed Project (Augmented Reality App and Mixed Media Touring Exhibition) received three separate awards – Archaeological Innovation, Best Public Dissemination or Presentation of Archaeology and Outstanding Achievement Award Winner.

So why did they pick us? At Peel X, we created the Uist Unearthed mobile app to allow visitors to experience some of the Western Isles’ most significant ancient sites, along the Hebridean Way as an immersive experience. Using AR, 3D modelling, animations and audio we reconstructed important archaeological sites which resulted in audiences being able to experience how these sites would have looked over 3,500 years ago. There really are no limits when it comes to immersive technology, and in this case, digital heritage.

We have had an excellent working relationship with the core team at Peel X since the outset of
the project. The team have met our vision with enthusiasm, determination and creativity and have
created excellent, high-quality outputs in full collaboration with our team.

Plus, we have a reputation and a history for driving visitors into town and cities through augmented reality. In a post-pandemic world, we know how much of a priority this is for rebuilding as well as bringing communities together. That’s why we were delighted to have also been awarded the Best Digital & Innovation Award at the Global Tourism Innovation Awards 2022, held in Seville earlier this year.

We’re very grateful for this award as it provided Peel X with global recognition for our Dublin Discovery Trails Augmented Reality app. Part of the Smart Tourism Programme, we combined the use of smart technology, innovation and data analysis to build an augmented reality app which showcased Dublin as an accessible, sustainable and equitable destination. Using digital storytelling to showcase the city as prosperous for locals and tourists.

From awards to nominations, we’re delighted to have also been shortlisted for two categories at the Children and Young People Now Awards, 2022 for our immersive learning programme, GameChanger. Now in its 17th year, these awards recognise those working with children, young people and families who work to raise the profile of projects and initiatives which support these groups.

But how did we achieve this? Well, GameChanger is a programme of immersive learning packages, designed as a tool for educational intervention against child exploitation. Using immersive and interactive learning packages, the programme raises awareness around child exploitation through a number of modules, in order to prevent cases occurring.

That’s not all, we’re delighted to have been recognised as ‘one of the UK’s eight immersive studios to watch’ by Digital Catapult, following an invitation to take part in a pitch/accelerator programme with the company alongside Nitantic. As leading American software developers, the two companies are the brains behind reality games such as Ingress and Pokémon Go.

As a Skipton-based company, being named one of the top eight companies in emerging, immersive tech in the UK really does help to propel us into the world of augmented reality technology on a global stage. It’s a testament to the hard work of the team for the past few years, where we’ve been pushing the boundaries of new technology to create experiences which not only enrich and engage, but enlighten and entertain.

In doing so, we’re transporting audiences to new realms where they can delight in seeing the world differently and experience the boundless depths of their imaginations on screen. We’re looking ahead now to 2023 and we can’t wait to share more with you.
